SACRAMENTS OF
INITIATION
Baptism
Baptism is the initial sacramental action of the Church,
whereby the candidate for Baptism is provided with a faith
identity, welcomed into a community of believers and
incorporated into the family of Jesus.
Baptismal Preparation is required.
Baptism is generally celebrated on the second and fourth Sunday
of the month following the last Mass on Sunday.
Please give us lots of notice.
Confirmation
Confirmation is celebrated as a sacrament of the Holy
Spirit, the completion of Baptism and a Christian’s witness to a
mature faith.
This sacrament is celebrated in the month of May on alternating
years with students of grades 7 and 8 from our schools.
Eucharist (Communion)
Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Jesus under the appearances
of bread and wine, is the heart of Catholic belief and worship.
Eucharist, the third sacrament of initiation, completes one’s
Baptismal and Confirmation commitment.
This sacrament is annually celebrated with our grade 2 students
in the spring. (April/May)
SACRAMENTS
OF HEALING & FORGIVENESS
Reconciliation (Confession, Penance)
The focus of this sacrament is on the healing forgiveness of
God. Reconciliation includes the confessing of personal sins and
the receiving of forgiveness through absolution from God’s
minister, the priest.
Grade 2 students celebrate their First Reconciliation in
February each year.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available on Saturdays from
4:30pm – 5:30pm or by appointment with the priest.
Anointing
of the Sick
Through the anointing with blessed oils and appropriate
prayers for the sick, the infirm, the aged, those preparing for
surgery, the healing touch of the priest helps to bring about a
spiritual peace and assurance at a time when one feels most
vulnerable.
Annually a special ‘Anointing of the Sick Mass’ is celebrated on
a Sunday in October / November of the year.
SACRAMENTS OF
VOCATION
Holy
Orders
This sacrament is conferred on men who, after years of
theological studies and pastoral experience, are ordained to
preside at liturgical and sacramental functions and to be a
multi-faceted shepherd to God’s people.

Matrimony
Christian marriage is viewed as a covenant relationship
between a man and a woman who administer the sacrament to each
other. The priest is the official church witness to this
ceremony wherein the couple participate in a solemn exchange of
marriage vows.
Six months notice is required.
Marriage Preparation course is mandatory.
